We are proud to introduce the first injectors with OEM nozzles that have correct spray patterns for the MINI's head. These injectors are manufactured by Bosch and flow 380cc/min., and have 15% dual cone spray pattern. Why a twin cone pattern? because the engineers at MINI designed the OEM injectors to flow directly at the intake valves, not at the central bridge. If you look down the MINI intake port through the injector nozzle hole (or intake port if the manifold is off the head, a central bridge is clearly visible. This is where the main intake port becomes split to direct air (and fuel) towards the intake valves. The correct injector type for this inlet configuration is one where the injector nozzle sprays a precisely split amount of fuel directly into each port and onto the back of each intake valve. An injector that sprays a single narrow fuel cone will wet the metal walls and causes fuel to dribble into the combustion chamber. Tuning/holding precise air/fuel ratios is thusly complicated. 8.5mm Ignition Cables feature 2.5mm high capacity Metallic Inductance EMI Suppressed conductor consisting of stainless steel wire precisely wound at 200 turns per inch over a ferromagnetic core. The insulating jacket is made entirely of TC-1500-HS high strength aerospace grade silicone rubber, and its single layer construction will prolong the jacket's insulating ability by conducting extreme heat away from hot-spots that occur near over-the-limit heat sources. The 8.5mm jacket has a service heat resistance of 600 degrees F (320 degrees C) and up to 1,000 degrees F (540 degrees C) for short burst 3 minutes.

The most notable of exaggerated claims for ignition wires are made by manufacturers of "grounded" wires, a recent manufacturer of ignition wires promoted as "the only spark plug wires with built-in capacitor." These consist of unsuppressed solid metal or spiral conductor ignition wires over which braided metal sleeves are partially fitted. The braided metal sleeves are grounded via straps formed from part of the braiding. Insulating covers are fitted over the braided metal sleeves. These wires are well constructed. For whatever reason, they specify that non-resistor spark plugs need to be used with their "HotWires." In a demonstration, the use of resistor plugs nullifies the visual effect of the brighter spark. Ignition wires with grounded braided metal sleeves over the cable have come and gone all over the world for (at least) the last 30 years, and similar wires were used over 20 years ago by a few car makers to solve cross-firing problems on early fuel injected engines and RFI problems on fiberglass bodied cars - only to find other problems were created. The recent Circle Track Magazine (USA, May, 1996 issue) test showed These "HotWires" produced no additional horsepower (the test actually showed a 10 horsepower decrease when compared to stock carbon conductor wires). The perceived effect a brighter spark, conducted by an ignition wire, encased or partially encased in a braided metal sleeve (shield) grounded to the engine, jumping across a huge free-air gap (which bears no relationship to the spark needed to fire the variable air/fuel mixture under pressure in a combustion chamber) is continually being re-discovered and cleverly demonstrated by marketers who convince themselves there's monetary value in such a bright spark, and all sorts of wild, completely un-provable claims are made for this phenomena. Like many in the past, they cleverly demonstrates a brighter free-air spark containing useless flash-over created by the crude "capacitor" (effect) of this style of wire. In reality, the bright spark has no more useful energy to fire a variable compressed air/fuel mixture than the clean spark you would see in a similar demonstration using any good carbon conductor wire. What is happening in such a demonstration is the coil output is being unnecessarily boosted to additionally supply spark energy that is induced (and wasted) into the grounded braided metal sleeve around the ignition wire's jacket. To test the validity of this statement, ask the demonstrator to disconnect the ground strap and observe just how much energy is sparking to ground. Claims by these companies of their "HotWires" creating sparks that are "300 times more powerful," reaching temperatures of "100,000 to 150,000 degrees F" (more than enough to melt spark plug electrodes), spark durations of "4 billionths of a second" (spark duration is controlled by the ignition system itself) and currents of "1,000 amperes" magically evolving in "capacitors" allegedly "built-in" to the ignition wires are as ridiculous as the data and the depiction of sparks in photographs used in advertising material and the price asked for these wires! Most stock ignition primaries are regulated to 6 amperes and the most powerful race ignition to no more than 40 amperes at 12,000 RPM. It is common knowledge amongst automotive electrical engineers that it is unwise to use ignition wires fitted with grounded braided metal sleeves fitted over ignition cable jackets on an automobile engine. This type of ignition wires forces its cable jackets to become an unsuitable dielectric for a crude capacitor (effect) between the conductor and the braided metal sleeves. While the wires function normally when first fitted, the cable jackets soon break down as a dielectric, and progressively more spark energy is induced from the conductors (though the cable jackets) into the grounded metal sleeves, causing the ignition coil to unnecessarily output more energy to fire both the spark plug gaps and the additional energy lost via the braided metal sleeves. Often this situation leads to ignition coil and control unit overload failures. It should be noted that it is dangerous to use these wires if not grounded to the engine, as the grounding straps will be alive with thousands of volts wanting to ground-out to anything (or body) nearby. Unless you are prepared to accept poorly suppressed ignition wires that fail sooner than any other type of ignition wires and stretch your ignition system to the limit, and have an engine with no electronic management system and/or exhaust emission controls, it's best not to be influenced by the exaggerated claims, and some vested-interest journalists', resellers' and installers' perception an engine ha more power after These wires are fitted. Often, after replacing deteriorated wires, any new ignition wires make an engine run better.

OTHER DEVICES CLAIMING TO INCREASE SPARKS:

Never be fooled by any device that is fitted between the ignition coil and the distributor, and/or distributor and the spark plugs (sometimes in place of ignition wires) for which claims of increased power, multiple sparks, and better fuel economy are made. These devices have come and gone over the last 50 years, and usually consists of a sealed container in which the spark is forced to jump an additional gap or is partially induced to ground on its way to the spark plug gap. These devices can also be cleverly demonstrated to produce sparks the human eye perceives as being "more powerful." The only "increase" a gullible consumer can expect from these devices is an undesirable increase in load on their vehicle's ignition system.

Over the last several months we have developed a new concept in intercooling for BMW applications, and decided to apply it to our R56 MINI. This intercooler design is unique in that it has a bigger frontal ambient face combined with thicker-than-stock core that seals off to the radiator fan/shroud. The cast end tanks have factory mounting points and factory charge pipe angles. The test prototype is being assembled as we speak and we expect to see it here soon.

The Helix supercharger pulley is the best performance bang-for-the-buck, period. After extensive road, dyno and track testing, we now proudly offer to you the 15% reduction pulley. The reduced pulley size allows the supercharger to spin faster in relationship to the motor, pumping more air into the motor and increasing power. In an otherwise stock vehicle, the pulley increases boost pressure by 3-4 ft/lbs, increasing horsepower and torque. In a car with other engine mods like intake and exhaust improvements, boost is increased to a maximum of 5 ft/lbs.

The factory software settings keep the fuel/air mixture only slightly leaner than stock -- still very rich -- so there is no risk of excessive heat buildup, even under prolonged track conditions. All of the factory emissions equipment including catalytic converter, and oxygen sensors work normally with the pulley upgrade.

The 2-part modular pulley is precision CNC machined entirely from 303 stainless steel. It bolts directly onto the supercharger shaft without the application of heat or use of a BFH. The hub is universal for all of our pulley sizes: stock, 15%, 17%, and 19% reduction, allowing the user to interchange pulley sizes. Other pulley sizes are available through special order. Here it is, the ultimate in MINI tuning packages: the TurboKompressor combines the advantages of the supercharger with power output of a Turbocharger. The kit includes all of the parts necessary to turn your car into a Porsche 996 beating monster. Needless to say, this is not for the faint-of-heart.

The prime motivator for the kit is a Garrett GT28rs turbocharger: a twin ball-bearing, oil and water cooled unit capable of flowing more than 350hp. It is controlled by a Turbosmart eboost boost contoller/boost gauge and pod. This allows the user to control waste gate actuation and electronically select boost levels. A custom cast exhaust manifold, warranteed for five years feeds the turbo. Cast manifolds are much less likeley to fail over the long run in turbo applications. A stainless steel 2.5 inch downpipe with integrated catalytic converter allows the car to run closed loop operation with no oxygen sensor "trickers". The charge pipes are 5 layer reinforced silicon tubing with integrated Turbosmart blow-off valve. Turbo gurus from Psi-Fi motorsports designed fuelling, timing, and optional AquaMist controlling. They use their ingenius Psi-Fi PowerPaq computer which is capable of real-time tuning. It controls the 500cc injectors. All lines, fittings and fasteners are of Porsche quality.

At this time, the TurboKompressor kit is only available for installation at our Philadelphia facility. Please inquire about options for car shipment and delivery.

The dyno graph is of the TurboKompressor kit in its most basic form, running a peak boost of 21.5 pounds, versus a popular similarly priced tuning kit available nation-wide. All testing was done on our Mustang MD-250 dyno, and represents wheel horsepower, uncorrected, and un-modified.

Helix Minisports is proud to work with legendary chip tuner GIAC on a new set of ECU chip upgrades for the MINI. After what seems an eternal wait for the MINI Flash, it is finally available for cars with the 15% pulley and 19% pulley (for use with upgraded fuel injectors).

GIAC tuned the MINI Chip on their in-house MD 500 AWD load dyno (we beleive the only MINI Chip manufacturer with a dyno) to produce a consistent 5-6 foot pounds of torque and 3-9 peak horsepower, depending upon what software is in the car from the factory. We duplicated those results on our dyno, and soon hope to have other reputable dyno shops confirm the gains.

In the future, GIAC will release their proprietary smart cable: putting file switching capabilities in the drivers' hands. This will allow the user to switch from various files that GIAC will provide, including stock, chipped, race gas, and valet mode (for those irresponsible drivers in your life). Those who buy the flash at an authorized GIAC dealer will, as always, get free updates (some dealers charge a nominal installation fee).

This is a great option for someone that is looking for a performance air intake without the extra sound normally associated with aftermarket intakes. The unit is comprised of a normal air intake at the front, a performance cone filter, and a valve controlled intake at the rear, which allows additional air in through the duct at the base of the windshield. By having the extra valve open only at high revs, there is no extra noise during "normal" driving below 4500 rpm.
