Helix is proud to be the innovator of the world's first Stepped Core Intercooler.
The Helix Stepped Core Intercooler design has a bigger frontal ambient face combined with thicker-than-stock core that seals to the radiator fan/shroud. The cast end tanks have factory charge pipe angles. Unlike stepped-core copies that have surfaced, the Helix SCI features cast end tanks for reduced turbulence and bull-nosed bars on the ambient face as well as the hot side of the intercooler. This increases air flow across the face of the intercooler as well as reducing pressure drop through the core. The core of the Helix SCI has increased fin density and will flow 250 horsepower with only a 0.5PSI pressure drop, while greatly reducing heat soak.
Installation is relatively straight forward and requires no cutting, drilling or permanent modifications to your vehicle.
Please see the graphs to the left showing the results from the data logging of our stock R56, with only the Helix Stepped Intercooler installed. The graphs compare intake manifold temperatures between the stock intercooler and the Helix SCI as datalogged on the street in similar conditions. Below you can find a video installation instruction as done by Helix spokesmodel/spokesmechanic Ralphy. Note the high production value, snappy background music by Kraftwerk, and how fast Ralph seems to work when we speed up the video.
The newest addition to Helix's product line is a must-have for turbo enthusiasts. Our blow-off valve kit sounds stock under normal driving, but will add that traditional turbo 'whoosh' to your R56 when you're giving it the stick. The helix BOV helps prevent compressor surge and reduces exhaust gas temperatures. Due to superior design and extensive spring testing, the Helix BOV does not cause check engine lights or MAF related problems.
Helix's kit includes high-quality machined elements and installs in about an hour with normal hand tools. There is no cutting or drilling necessary, and the modification is 100% reversible.
*This fits the 2007-2010 models. If you have a late build 2010, you will need to check under your intake box to see if you still have a noisemaker that routes to the firewall.
To help get your power to the ground BSH has developed an upgraded replacement for the lower motor mount. The stock lower mount is a cast piece with a sectioned rubber insert, which works well enough for a stock MINI, but can't handle the twisting forces exerted upon the motors of modified cars. These top-quality mounts help with crisper throttle response and reduced engine movement.
The BSH Lower Motor Mount is machined from a solid piece of T-6061 anodized aluminum and incorporates a polyurethane bushing with metal insert. Both street and race durometers are available, so please call if you have questions. Typically we recommend the street bushing, even for highly modified cars: the race bushings do transmit substantial engine vibrations to the cabin.
DDMWorks R56 Street Cold Air Intake
The goal of the street intake was to open up the intake and allow the engine to take in as much air as possible, increasing power, providing better throttle response and faster turbo spool. The filter allows the sound of the turbo spooling up and the blow off noise of the bypass valve to be heard during shifting. The intake kit consists of a unique bracket that locks into the bottom of the stock intake creating a pocket to hold a high flow filter. The filter is then connected to the air flow meter using a silicone connector secured with stainless steel hose clamps. All other hardware on the intake is also stainless steel. Complete installation can be done quickly and without any modifications to the car and is 100% reversible. The intake is offered in Black matte powder coat.
The new cat-back exhaust system from Milltek Sport features a front pipe, centre section, connecting pipe, and rear silencer with twin oval tailpipes. The sound is sporty and slightly aggressive--more so than the R53 cat-back. The fitment and quality of this system are excellent.
The new Invidia cat-back exhaust system for the R56 Mini Cooper S is one of the highest quality and best sounding exhausts on the market for the R56. It features dual rolled tips and 2.5" piping to guarantee free exhaust flow through your turboed Mini. It's designed to bolt up to the stock downpipe and eliminates the second cat. All necessary hardware and gaskets are included.
After their success with the R53 Mini Cooper S, GIAC now offers tuning for the R56 Mini Cooper 2007+ cars. As with their other applications, the GIAC tuning file will
be delivered to the R56 via flashloader. In other words, the file will
modify existing factory maps as opposed to using a piggy-back computer to
corrupt sensor signals to the DME. This maintains factory sensor performance
evaluation by the DME: something that is important especially as cars get
older.
The engineers at GIAC have spent hours on development, making it a priority to tune the cars on pump gas with no knock. That's important, because there certainly is more
boost available from the stock turbo than you see on these plots, but
particularly with the stock intercooler, the car is incapable of dealing
with the intake heat. We are currently working on a custom GIAC file to make more power along with our Helix Stepped Core Intercooler.
The dyno below was done at GIAC on a single car, stock, with GIAC alone, and finally GIAC plus an intercooler and exhaust. They were conducted with 91 octane fuel.
